Society Projects: Ventura Genealogical Society

PROJECTSThe aim of this monthly column is to highlight  the wonderful
resources that have been created by our member societies.
Orange Line
VGS revamped their website within the last year.  It is very sleek with an online library catalog, downloadable workshop handouts, a surname search, online membership signups using PayPal, and a fantastic set of online records.

The Cemetery Records Page lists each cemetery in the county. a details link provides contact information and a Google Map.  The society has indexes to burials for many of the cemeteries.  These can be browsed by cemetery or you can search for a particular surname across all the available records.
A History and Biographies page has links to digitized and transcribed histories, photographs, bibliographies, timelines and more.
The indexes and transcriptions page shows the depth of the society’s special projects.  You’ll find a probate index covering the years 1873-1993, Death Index 1872-1908, Coroner’s Records Index 1873-1941.  There are indexes to  Marriages, Voter Registrations, Land, Baptisms, Guardianship and more.
The Index to Fillmore Newspaper Obituary Notices, 1916-1996 is available, and you can request a search through other society obituary indexes that have not yet been loaded on the site.
If your society is looking to revamp your website, or create a new one, be sure to check this one out. It is a website and a project list to be proud of.
