California Research Websites Worth Visiting

The Online Archive of California provides free public access to detailed descriptions of primary resource collections maintained by more than 200 contributing institutions including libraries, special collections, archives, historical societies, and museums throughout California and collections maintained by the 10 University of California (UC) campuses.” [OAC about]

Every individual researching a California subject should start here.  Every major institution in the state has made contributions, you will also find links to detailed instructions on accessing the records.  Of course, you shouldn’t stop here.  Search the catalogs of all those institutions individually as well, something more might be hiding in the collections.  Remember to search WorldCat as well for California records that have found their way to repositories outside the state.
